Jefferson “Keno” Wilson Award
Jefferson “Keno” Wilson served as a law enforcement officer for more than fifty years including a stint with the San Diego Police Department from 1899 until his retirement in 1926. During his career, Keno served as Chief of Police from 1909 until 1917. As Chief, Keno hired the SDPD’s first Black Officer, first Asian officer, first Policewoman and appointed the departments first black detective. He also established the Records Bureau, instituted fingerprinting as a source of identification and cleaned up the vice ridden Stingaree District. Keno Wilson died in 1934.
