Commissioner David Bejarano served a 24 year career with the San Diego Police Department including the last four years of his career as the Chief of Police.
His 1999 promotion to chief made him the first Latino to serve as police chief since Antonio Gonzales who served as San Diego’s top lawman from 1838-1845.
Following a 2003 appointment from President George W. Bush, Commissioner Bejarano left the police department to serve as the United States Marshal for the Southern District. In October of 2005,
Commissioner Bejarano resigned as the Marshal to pursue a career in the private sector.
